A bit of background on me, so you can get a little flavour of who I am and what I do.

I have dedicated my working life to improving the health and wellbeing of clients and teachers alike.  Having spent almost three decades in the fitness industry, I bring a wealth of knowlege and experience directly to you.  I have trained in various different exercise modalities over the years and I want to share my teachings with like-minded industry professionals.

My passion lies in holistic forms of movement, primarily Pilates, yoga and barre, as well as mindful techniques that shift one’s perspective and improve mental health.  The goal is to spread these techniques to as many people as I can reach, so that they too may benefit physically, emotionally and mentally.  Reaching more people means creating more teachers, therefore, I have founded various companies to facilitate this (Pilates Union UK, Union Yoga UK, BarreConcept, MyBody Studios and, of course, this website – EmmaNewhamFitness.

I have a wealth of media experience, having written for national newspapers and fitness magazines as well as hosting live fitness slots on UK radio, LBC.  As co-presenter on the shopping channel, QVC, I taught Pilates and sold fitness equipment on live TV and it was a great experience.  I’m author to various exercise training manuals and have produced my own range of fitness DVDs.

My online courses all have international accreditation, (which are held under the name of my company, Pilates Union UK), with various fitness organisations across the globe.  Each course has been externally verified and accredited by different international bodies, so please check each individual course for CPD and CEC points.

Aside from being a tutor, I’m also an Assessor (assessing teachers for their final exams) and an Internal Quality Assurer or internal verifier, (I assess the assessors, doing their assessing), so you can be assured of quality content and consistency.

I’ve been lucky enough to deliver instructor training courses at various countries around the world and meet my fellow teachers and I feel privileged to have been a part of their journey.  It was due to these very same teachers requesting further training, that gave birth to this online e-learning website, which allows them to continue their training and professional development with me.

In my capacity as a fitness consultant, I have advised professional sportsmen and companies including the ECB (English Cricket Board), Sunderland Football Club, Birmingham Royal Ballet, London Business School and Durham County Cricket Club.

Providing Mentoring sessions to previous and new instructors is a large part of my job.  Giving professional advice to help instructors grow their business and broaden their horizons, allows them to think outside of the box and gain insight, allowing them to learn and directly benefit from my own experience.

Additional Skills and Qualifications

Rehabilitation schemes are one of my specialities, having set up the first Back Care exercise scheme for the spinal surgery patients at The Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital in London. In addition, I’ve also helped to update and implement a safe exercise circuit programme for Barnet NHS in London, for their Cardiac Rehabilitation Classes.

Yoga has always been a keen interest for me and is still my favourite method of movement.  I travelled to the Himalayas in India in 2006, to undertake my first yoga teacher training course at the Sivananda ashram. Since then, I  travelled to Mysore, Southern India, to train with the international guru, Patabi Jois, specialising in Ashtanga yoga.  More well-know, modern yogis whom I have had the pleasure of training with include Paul Grilley, John Scott and David Swenson (completing his Ashtanga Yoga Foundation teaher training course).

In 2018, I also completed and qualified as a Kundalini yoga teacher.  Breathwork has fascinated me for a long time, so I took a Pranayama teacher training course, to further my understanding of these ancient techniques.  In addition, I’m also an Aerial Yoga teacher.

Often described as ‘Yoga for the 21st century’ – I certified in Gyrotonic® and Gyrokinesis® almost 20 years ago.

As well as being a fully qualified Personal Trainer with London Central YMCA, I am one of a few hundred Cardiac Rehabilitation teachers in England having qualified to Phase 4 instructor level, with the British Association for Caridovascular Prevention and Rehabilitation (BACPR)

The effects of different bodywork techniques have always fascianted me, so I have trained in various methods including: Reiki; Core Fascial Release; Biomechanics, Thai Yoga Massage, Ayurvedic Massage and Gong practitioner.

Hopefully, this background information gives you an insight into who I am and what I do.  Feel free to book a Zoom session with me to find out more and ask any burning questions you may have!
