200 Hour Yoga Teacher Training

The Union Yoga UK 200 Hour Yoga Teacher Training Course is internationally accredited, with approval in the UK, USA, Canada and Australia.  Launched in 2010, this training course covers basic, intermediate and advanced exercises from the classic barre repertoire.

Director of Union Yoga UK and Founder of Pilates Union UK, your tutor, Emma Newham, is one of the UK’s longest serving holistic exercise teachers and has been a fitness educator for almost three decades and running internationally accredited teacher training courses and workshops since 2007.

Emma brings a wealth of personal knowledge and industry experience to this comprehensive training course. Further education courses are available, so you can pursue your fitness journey with Emma, if you wish to continue learning

Emma is an international presenter for MindBody fitness and has delivered face to face and online training to students all over the globe. She’s a qualified Assessor for Yoga, Pilates and Barre, as well as an Internal Quality Assurer (Internal Verifier), so she assesses the Assessors doing their assessing.  Her attention to detail is unparalleled.  Therefore, you can be assured of the highest quality training standard and education.

Course Dates 2027

The 200 hour yoga teacher training course includes 180 in-person contact hours plus another 20 hours of work online.  You will therefore have access to the comprehensive online e-learning portal for a period of 9 months.

The 18 face to face training days are spread over 9 months.

Costs

There are several costs involved in the BarreConcept Instructor Training course. These include the course cost, training manual, exam assessment fee and these are all detailed in full below.

The cost of the In Person, 18 day Instructor Training course is £2,800

Yoga Training Manual Fee

The cost of the Union Yoga Instruction Manual is £26.99.

Exam Assessment Fee

The cost of your assessors fee to view your exam is £55.

Course Structure

Yoga History and Philosophy 

  • Background to the ancient, holy scriptures and classic texts including the Vedas, Upanishads, Bhagavad Gita andYoga Sutras
  • Patanjali’s 8 Limbs of Yoga
  • Different types of yoga and styles
  • Concepts of Karma, Dharma, Reincarnation, Maya
  • Hindu Gods and Goddesses
  • Sanskrit Terminology (numbers/ elements/ body parts/ directions of movement)

Yoga Asanas

  • Over 100 yoga poses covered – from beginner, through to advanced
  • Understand the anatomy of each asana, as well as the more subtle, energetic benefits
  • Learn how to teach and adapt each pose, to cater for various ability levels and health conditions.  Understand the contraindications and modifications for each asana.

Pranayama

  • Over 20 different breathwork techiques are covered from conscious breathing to pre-pranayama breathwork and onto full pranayama
  • Understand the purpose of different breathwork to cater for different outcomes (e.g techniques to calm or fire up the nervous system)
  • Learn how to apply the specific techniques for clients of differing needs

Meditation

  • Over 12 different types of meditation are covered on this training
  • Understand the benefits of meditation (physical, mental, spiritual, emotional)
  • Learn how to apply the specific techniques for clients of differing needs and abilities

Mantras 

  • Ten classic, ancient and traditional mantras are covered
  • Understand the meaning of mantras and effects on the physiology
  • Kirtan (group chanting)

Mudras

  • Over 20 different mudras (hand gestures) are covered
  • Understand the energetic benefits and effects of different gestures
  • How to use mudras for different health conditions

Anatomy

  • Level 3 Musculo-skeletal anatomy covered
  • Understand the effects of misalignment and poor posture on the muscles
  • Apply specific asanas to correct any muscular imbalances

Class Planning

  • Learn how to design session plans and progressive programmes for private clients and group classes

Assessments and Certification

In order to achieve a pass in this course, there are three assessments involved:

Assessment One – Theory Paper

There is a theory paper, containing up to 60 questions, which you will complete in your open time, as an open book assessment

Assessment Two – Progressive Programme Design

You must design 3 lesson plans (week one, week five and week ten) for a 60 minute yoga session.

Assessment Three – Practical 50 minute video exam

You must submit a video of you teaching a minimum of two healthy adults. You must teach from your approved week 5 exam lesson plan routine that you have devised.

This lesson routine includes the introduction and breathing, Surya Namaskar warm up, Standing poses, Floor poses, final relaxation in Savasana. You will be assessed on a list of selected criteria. These categories include: safety; modifications; teaching points; observation; correction; demonstration; proper technique; tactile cueing; pitch and tone of voice. You will be given the full list of criteria on the course so that you can prepare for your practical assessment accordingly.

Re-Assessment

Candidates who refer any aspect of the assessment will be offered an opportunity to re-take that element in accordance with the terms and conditions and guidelines of the approved centre. Re-taking of any assessment may incur a fee. These fees are charged on a pro-rata basis.

Course Cancellation

No refunds are given under any circumstances, should you wish to cancel your place on a course. if cancellation takes place within 21 days of course commencement. A place on a future course will be offered to you.

In the event that a student needs to cancel, then the following options are available. 1) Transfer to another course where space available 2) Transfer your place to a colleague of your choice (provided they satisfy our prerequisites) 3) Transfer your funds to any of our online courses available on www.emmanewhamfitness.com.

In order to run any course, there has to be sufficient numbers of students in attendance. In the unlikely event that a course has to be cancelled by us, due to insufficient numbers or for any other reason, you will receive a full and complete refund or offered a place on another course if you wish.

Booking online does not ensure that the course will take place. Please check that your chosen course will run as normal before making any travel or accommodation arrangements.  All courses are confirmed 21 days before course commencement.
